The Legacy Book

Every life story is worth keeping

Aumoria gathers the memories behind a life into a hardcover book you can keep. Your loved one talks, in their own voice, and we shape their stories into a book your family will hold onto for generations.

How it works

From first story to finished book

There is no writing to do and nothing to work out. You share the memories, and we turn them into a finished book.

Recording stories as a voice note on a phone Step one

Share the stories

Record stories using your phone's voice recorder and upload to your private portal. Use our gentle prompts to spark memories and conversations. Do it on your own, together, or gather memories from across the family.

The finished Legacy Book Step two

We make the book

We gather every recording, note and photo and shape it into warm, readable chapters. Every life is different, so we work with you to find the structure that fits yours, rather than fitting your stories into a template. You approve a full proof, then your hardcover is printed and delivered to your door, about two weeks later.

Who it's for

Two ways to begin

Whether you are keeping a loved one's stories or telling your own, it becomes the same lasting book.

A parent and adult child talking together

A gift for someone you love

Capture a loved one's life. They talk, in their own voice, and the book keeps it exactly as it is now. A gift for them, and for everyone who comes after.

Looking through old photographs while telling a story

Your own story

Tell it yourself. Record the memories you want kept, at your own pace, and we shape them into a book your family will pass down. Many people begin at retirement, when there is finally time to look back.

Why people begin

There is always a reason, and never a wrong one

Some families start with an occasion in mind. Others simply feel the time is right.

  • A milestone birthday
  • A wedding or anniversary
  • Recording the family tree
  • Welcoming a new grandchild
  • A gift for the grandchildren
  • Celebrating a life well lived
  • A retirement or homecoming
  • Simply because it matters

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Legacy Book is a custom hardcover, designed around your stories and photos. The voice on the page is the storyteller's, edited gently so it reads naturally without losing how they actually speak. Photos are touched up where needed. Translation is available if any of the stories are in another language. You also receive a high-resolution PDF of the finished book to keep, share, or use as a digital backup.

Your Legacy Book is a premium 8 x 8 inch square hardcover, available with either a linen or a photo cover.

For books up to 70 pages, we use lay-flat binding with extra-thick pages, so every spread opens completely flat, with photos and text uninterrupted by the spine. Most families find 70 pages is more than enough room for a beautiful, full life of stories.

If you have a lot to say and need more space, we can print up to 150 pages in standard binding. The pages don't lay completely flat, but the book is just as beautifully made, and you get the room to include everything.

Books longer than 150 pages can be arranged on request, with an additional $1 per extra page to cover the additional editorial and print costs.

You get access to your private digital portal, where your story prompts live and where you upload voice recordings and photographs whenever you're ready.

From there, you record at your own pace. There's no weekly schedule, no deadline, no pressure. Each story you submit is transcribed and edited with care to preserve the speaker's voice.

You'll receive a draft of your first edited story so you can see what your Legacy Book will look and feel like. Once you're ready to finalise, we send you the full proof to review before anything goes to print.

If you get stuck at any point, you can email us or book a video call. Replies usually come within a day.

There's no deadline. Record one story this weekend and the next whenever you're ready. Your portal stays open and your stories wait for you.

Most families take between a month and several months, depending on how much your loved one wants to share and how often you can sit down together. Once your final recording and photographs are in, allow approximately two weeks for editing, design, printing and delivery.

If the process feels harder than expected, email us or book a video call. We will help you figure out the right approach.

You can cancel at any time before printing for a full refund. We don't print your Legacy Book until you've approved the final draft, and if the finished book arrives and you don't love it, we'll refund you in full within 30 days.

Refer to our Refunds Policy for the full details.

Yes. One payment for the Legacy Book, no subscriptions, no recurring fees, nothing hidden. Your purchase covers everything from start to finished hardcover at your door.

One editor, from the first recording to the final page. The same person handles transcription, editing, design and proofing.

Your family's stories don't pass through a team or a queue of contractors. They are read carefully, by one person, who stays with your project the whole way through.

Yes. That's the work.

We transcribe the recordings closely and edit lightly, keeping the way they actually speak: the phrases they use, the way they tell a story, the pauses and turns of phrase that make them sound like them. The goal is a book that reads in their voice, not in ours.

Storyworth and Remento send weekly prompts and compile the responses into a book using software. Nobody reads the stories. The voice on the page is whatever was typed or recorded, formatted into a template, often with a year of weekly prompts to keep up with.

They're a good fit if you want a low-cost way to capture stories over time and you're comfortable with a templated result.

Aumoria is different. Your stories are read by a real editor, who shapes them to preserve how your loved one actually speaks. Every page is designed around their words rather than fitted to a layout.

And because a person is making your book rather than software, the customisation goes further than a templated service can. Grandkids' drawings worked into the pages. Little captions of things they say about grandad. Stories from multiple family members woven together. Books printed in two languages from the same recordings. Whatever the family has, the editor finds a way to include it.

Choose Aumoria if you want their actual voice preserved properly, in a book that feels like it was made for them. Choose Storyworth or Remento if you'd rather a simpler, automated option.

Ghostwriters do beautiful work, and for some families they're exactly right. They typically charge between $1,500 and $5,000 to produce a polished, full-length memoir over several months of interviews and drafts. The result reads like literature.

Aumoria is for families who want something different. Your loved one's stories, in their own words, in a beautiful book, without a literary project on top. The editing is light, to keep the voice intact rather than rewriting them into someone they aren't. The book is shorter than a ghostwritten memoir, but the voice on the page is theirs.

If you want a polished, full-length biography, a ghostwriter is the better choice. If you want their actual voice preserved properly, in something your family will treasure, that's what Aumoria is built for.

This is one of the most common reasons families come to us. Long-term memory often stays sharp even when day-to-day memory fades, so the stories from their younger years are usually still there.

Short sessions work better than long ones. Ten or fifteen minutes a few times a week is plenty, and there's no schedule to keep up with.

If you're working against time, email your editor and they'll help you figure out the right approach for where your loved one is now.

It often does. People cry. They pause. They tell a story they haven't told anyone in forty years.

There's no recording schedule and no deadline, so your loved one can stop whenever they need to and come back when they're ready. If a story is too painful, they don't have to tell it. If they tell it and want it taken out later, just let your editor know.

Hard memories are part of a real life. They're often the ones the next generation most needs to hear, told in their own words rather than guessed at.

Then this becomes a tribute book. The people who loved them share their memories, spoken or written, along with photographs and anything else they would like to include in the book. We weave those contributions into one book that honours them, in the words of the people who loved them most.
