What to Do If You're Not Happy With Your Recording

What to Do If You're Not Happy With Your Recording

First: don't overthink it.

Most people finish a recording and immediately find something to criticise. Their voice, the way they stumbled over a word, the moment they lost their train of thought. It's very hard to listen to yourself objectively straight after recording.

Before you do anything, put your phone down and give it a little time. Come back to it later, even an hour makes a difference. Listen again with fresh ears and you'll often find it's much better than you thought.

If you're still not happy

Ask yourself honestly: is the story there, even if the delivery isn't perfect? A recording doesn't need to be polished. It just needs to be clear enough to follow and genuine enough to feel like you.

If the answer is yes, send it. Imperfect is fine.

If the answer is no, re-record it. Try a different time of day, a different setting, or a different prompt. Sometimes the first attempt is just warming up.

If you're genuinely unsure

Send me a quick message before you upload and we can figure it out together. A short description of what you recorded and what's worrying you is enough; you don't need to send the file until you're ready.
